We got up this morning and I called one of the local glass places that the campground recommended. They are coming out tomorrow morning to repair the chip we have in the dashboard.
We decided that we would drive over to Yellowstone today so I quickly packed a lunch for us and off we went. It is about 50 miles to the front entrance but it was a nice drive. There was only one spot where there was road construction and it didn't slow us down much. Soon we were past the entrance and enjoying the scenes.
Since we drove in using the east entrance, the first really big thing you see is Yellowstone lake.
We have decided to come in the east entrance, pass through Fishing Bridge, then up to Canyon Junction, next would be Tower Junction and then out through the northeast entrance. Today would be bison day. They were all over the park! Usually we see a few but today I think we saw most of the bison that live in the park (between 2300 and 4500). There was even on guy pretending to be a "follow me" truck and leading a huge line of cars.
We stopped to see the Dragon's Mouth and the Mud Volcano.
The Yellowstone Falls are always a lovely site.
As well as the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone -
We ventured out to Inspiration Point -
We even saw a bear and boy did he cause a traffic jam -
We stopped in Canyon Junction and had some ice cream. We asked for a single scoop and it was what I would consider a double or triple scoop! We both had mountain berry and enjoyed it.
Traffic stopped for animals, of course, but there were also a few places in the park where road construction was going on and the road was down to one lane. That meant sitting for awhile waiting for the "follow me" truck to take everyone through.
We didn't see any elk but did see a few deer outside the park.
We left the campground around 10:30 AM and returned after 8:30 PM. We did stop on the way back to the campground at Burger King for a really late dinner. Good thing we took a couple of snacks with us as well as our lunch sandwiches.
The drive over the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway was nice. Most of the time we had the ride to ourselves.
We drove over 225 miles today and were tired by the time we got back to the rig. Tomorrow we don't have anything planned in the morning but do have plans in the evening so come back tomorrow to see what we did. Here are all the pictures I took.
