Sept 20, 2013 Friday
The alarm clock went off at 6:00 AM today. Yuck. We had to get up early to get to the dock so we could board our 8:15AM ferry to Victoria. Victoria is the capital of British Columbia, Canada. The parliament building was one of the first things we saw.
We took a short walk through the building and grounds. They were very nice.
We walked a few (no, a lot) blocks to Beacon Hill Park to see the world's tallest totem pole at 127 feet 7 inches.
Then we walked back to the main tourist part of town to do a little window shopping and to have lunch. We picked a place called the Bard & Banker, a Scottish pub. It is dedicated to Robert Service, a man who wrote such poems as The Cremation of Sam McGee and The Shooting of Dan McGrew. The building the restaurant is in is the original Bank where Service worked when he lived in Victoria.
The food was fine, nothing great. I had shepherds pie and Bill had a roast beef sandwich.
After that we walked around for awhile and I bought some tea for myself at a nice tea shop. We also had some ice cream. Soon we were headed back to the docks to catch the ferry back home. We thought it was going to rain today but we pulled out of the dock at 3:15 PM and it was not raining in Victoria. As we got closer to Port Angeles it really started raining. Glad it stayed on that side of the water.
We had a good time and plan on returning one day.
Enjoy the pictures.
