Oct 8-9, 2013 Tues - Wed
We had a long drive, for us anyway. on Tuesday of about 220 miles. For some reason it seemed to take a very long time. I think it was because reveille goes off on Travis at 7:00 so we were up and out early. They have diesel on base at $4.03 a gallon so we filled up before leaving.
I took some pictures before we left Travis -
You can see how close we were to the front gate here -
The drive down to Lemoore was uneventful. Traffic was light all the way but we did have a scare. While we were on Hwy 12 heading toward I-5 there was an accident right behind us. We heard the cars hit but couldn't see it. We are stopped at an intersection and our light turned green. The cars in the right lane by us, and us proceeded through the intersection. Just as we were about half way through there was a really big crash. At first I thought someone hit our tow car but they didn't. We couldn't figure out exactly what happened. Since we didn't see anything we kept going. Scary.
We found Naval Air Station Lemoore easily. We are here for a couple nights before we head over to San Luis Obispo. It was hot when we arrived. Since it is usually very hot here in the summer so there is no grass, all gravel.
They fly jets out of here and they are training now. Luckily, they have not flown after about 10:00 PM yet. You have to contend with the jet noise while watching TV. We turn the volume up then turn it back down. I am not complaining, just stating facts. It is the sound of freedom you know.
Wednesday the clouds rolled in. It hasn't rained yet but the skies are black. I understand it is raining down south. Hope it stops before we get there.
That is all for now. Here are all the pictures.
