Moving West

Saturday - Monday, Sept 27-29, 2014

Friday we arrived in Zanesville, OH.  We are staying at Wolfies Campground.  We are in site 40.  The trip in from the highway was interesting when I had Bill turn on the wrong street.  We wound up driving down an alley!  Good thing we fit.  We got back on the right road and reached the campground with no further problem.

As soon as we were parked we were attacked by stink bugs.  This place has a huge infestation of them.  We spent the rest of the day killing the stupid things inside the rig.  I am sure they made it into some of the little hiding places in the rig.

After getting settled in we decided to take a little drive to check out the town.  We were looking for a little family restaurant to go to breakfast at.  We also were looking for a car wash.  The car wash that the GPS showed was closed.  I drove a bit further up the street and found another one.  Not my car looks gold again.  We didn't find a little family owned place and decided we would go to Cracker Barrel in the morning.  Since we only have about 120 miles tomorrow we will not be in a hurry to leave here.

Saturday morning dawned and it promised to be a warm day.  Breakfast was good and we soon hooked the car up and took off.  Our destination is Wright-Patterson Air Force Base outside of Dayton, OH.  I had directions from www.militarycampgrounds.us on how to get to the campground once on base but they were not correct.  The base has redone their front gate and the directions have changed.  We finally did make it to the campground.  I will have to submit the changes to get the website updated.

We originally were only staying here 5 nights.  The office at the campground is no longer open.  You have to find building 95 on base to see anyone.  When we first arrived the people in our site were just starting to get ready to leave.  We found a spot where we could park the rig and waited for them to move.  It was about 45 minutes before they left.  We soon settled into our site and got set up.  I think we brought a huge number of stink bugs with us.  Once I opened the slides and put out the awnings we were attacked.  I killed about 40 in the rig and there were a number outside.  Bill killed a bunch of those.  Our neighbors told us that there are stink bugs here but no where near the number we had.  Once those were all killed off the number in the rig dropped to 3 or 4 a day.

Our neighbor also told us that if you paid for 5 nights you got 2 free.  Hey, I like free nights.  So on Monday we took our base map and tried to find building 95.  We got our free night and we added an 8th night so that we can exit using the back gate.  This campground doesn't have a camp host and the hours at Outdoor Rec are limited.  That means if you don't have a reservation when you get here you just take an open spot and can stay for free!  Their reason for not having a camp host is that they can't afford to not rent the spot out. (Most campgrounds give the camp host a free spot).  I think this is a mistake as they are not 100% full and the host could stop people from staying for free.  An example of saving pennies and losing dollars.

Monday we decided to go to the PX and commissary.  I have only been picking up groceries that I needed at the time.  I did a big shopping trip this time.

Before we left I put a roast in the crockpot and we had that for dinner.

I spent some time reworking our schedule after deciding to stay here for 3 extra days.  Since we are just killing time until we need to be in Iowa for our Winnebago appt.  It didn't matter where we sat.  We will probably visit the Museum of The Air Force  while we are here.  I don't know what else we will do.

That is all for now.  Bye.
