Virginia Beach, VA

Sept 2-3, 2014  Tuesday-Wednesday

Tuesday morning we got everything ready and left Cherry Point.  It was sad leaving the family.  We will miss seeing everyone.

The drive to Virginia Beach, VA was uneventful.  It was about 190 miles along US17.  We did make one stop at the Great Dismal Swamp Visitor's Center.  It was hot and muggy.  That name suits it perfectly.

When we reached our destination the thermometer in the rig read 100 degrees.  And I think the humidity was around the same.

We are spending the next 5 nights at Sea Mist Campground on the Dam Neck Annex.  It is associated with Oceana Naval Station, which is just up the road.  The front gate is having some work done so it is a tight road to navigate with the rig.  We stopped down the road a bit and unhooked the car so it would be easier.  The is park is divided into two parts - the old section, which has a lot of trees, and the new section, which doesn't.  We are in the new section.  We have site 10.  It is a back-in site and we are up against the sand dunes.  You can hear the ocean waves when you are outside.

When we checked in the camp host told us that there is a buffet lunch everyday at the Shifting Sands club.  It cost $8.50 a person.  So on Wednesday we went there for lunch.  They had a decent salad bar, navy bean soup (which changes every day), corn, lima beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, rice, BBQ ribs, chicken wings, and a couple of other things.  Your drink and dessert is also included.  They had an assortment of cakes and other desserts.  We had a nice meal.  It is going to be our only meal for the day.  Afterward we walked up the steps and checked out the beach.

Afterward we decided to drive over to the Virginia Beach boardwalk.  It wasn't as hot today as yesterday but it was still muggy.  We enjoyed strolling down the boardwalk, which is really concrete, and checking things out.  There aren't any shops along the boardwalk, those are a block up on Atlantic Ave.  Here are some pictures I took -

I made the mistake of wearing new shoes today and rubbed a blister on one foot.  Bill walked back and brought the car to were I was waiting.  Good thing as I don't think I could have walked the whole way back.

We had a nice day.  I am not sure what we are doing tomorrow but we hope to have a nice relaxing day.  That is all for now.  Enjoy the pictures -
