New Bern, NC Days 12-14

Friday-Sunday, 7/24-26/2015
New Bern, NC

We actually did a little sight seeing on Friday.  We drove into downtown New Bern and visited the Tryon Palace.  The Tryon Palace was the original government building in New Bern.  It was home to the English Governor.  New Bern was the first capitol of North Carolina.  It was built in 1770 as home for Governor Tryon.  After the Revolutionary War it served as the first permanent capital.  In 1798 the Palace building burned.  It was abandoned but in the 1920's the local people planned to rebuild it.  It took them 30 years and it reopened in 1959.  The stables building is the only "original" building, the others are rebuilt.  Today, historical interpreters, in appropriate dress, give tours.

We spent a couple of hours touring the house, kitchen house, stables and gardens.

Saturday we drove to Salter Path, NC to visit the family on the beach.  We took along a bunch of suntan lotion but we didn't get every bit of exposed skin..  Both of us got a little bit of sunburn.  The family really likes the beach.  They had this trip planned before we gave them our schedule.  They stayed in an older motel in the area with direct access to the beach.

Sunday was clean up around the rig day.  I did a few loads of laundry.  A fun day.  Ha Ha

Later this week we will get the rig repairs done and plan on leaving on Monday
