Warner Robins, GA Day 6

Wednesday, 7/08/2015
Warner Robins, GA

We weren't in a big hurry to get up this morning but when we did we got ready to leave.  We are driving into Atlanta today to visit the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.  We also have plans to visit the Cyclorama and Civil War Museum.  It is about 100 miles to get to Atlanta.  Since we still have the rental car this is a good test.  I don't think I would buy a Cruze but it was fun to drive something different.

The drive was uneventful and we arrived at the Carter Center around 12:30.  There is a cafe there but we decided to wait until our drive home to eat.  The museum cost $6 each at the military/senior price.  We have been to many Presidential Libraries and I must say this wasn't my favorite.  It was a bit spartan.

While we were looking through the exhibit of his early life we came across his and Rosalynn's square dance graduation diploma.  The funny thing is that the ones we use today look almost exactly like this and it is from 1963!  I think we need to modernize a bit.

There was the necessary replica of the Oval Office -

One thing I really liked was a portrait of Carter painted with using everyday objects.  If you double click on this picture and enlarge it you can see buildings, ships, trucks, flags, etc.

They also had his Nobel Peace Prize in the building.

Just as we were finishing up at the museum Firestone called about the car.  We told them we would be in before they closed to pick it up.  It appears my EGR valve went bad.  The leak was a plugged line in the air conditioning system.

We left the Carter Center and headed over to the Atlanta Zoo where the Cyclorama is located.  One of the people we met on the 4th told us about this and said it was neat.  Unfortunately, it is closed until 2017 and is being moved from its current location.  Guess I will have to leave that on my bucket list for awhile.

We headed home and stopped at a Cracker Barrel for linner.  It was about 2:30 or so.  We figured we could eat, get to the base and get the car, then return the rental before 6:00.

The drive back was uneventful and we got to the base around 4:45.  We paid for the car repairs and when Bill started it the check engine light came on.  Back inside he went.  They came out and looked at it and did some things.  Soon we were off.  Before we went a couple of blocks the light came back on.  Back to the service center.  They took it around back and did something to it.  The service guy and Bill took a quick ride and everything seemed fine.  So off we went to return the rental.  As we were headed over there I heard a severe thunderstorm warning with hail.  Need to get this thing returned before it gets hail damage!  We returned the car and headed home.  We are in for the night and don't have any real plans for tomorrow.   We will probably just spend some time getting ready to leave on Friday morning.

I took a picture of an interesting trailer that is here at the campground.  It really can move and was custom built.

I hope you had a good day.  Here are the pictures I took.
