Amana Colonies, IA

We started out with a planned drive of 215 miles today.  We took off and stopped at the Flying J 5 miles up the road.  Before we got there Bill had to pull over as the door to the compartment that contains the electric hookups came open.  I jumped out and got it closed.  I was lucky, all the big rigs on the road moved over to the left lane so I could walk down and close the door.

Lola wants out of the rig the minute it stops.  When we pulled into the Flying J she was all ready to get out.  Hey, we only went 5 miles down the road!

While we were driving I called the campground I planned on stopping at tonight.  I was shocked that they said they had no 50 amp full hookups available.  We didn't use the sewer the last 2 nights and will need to dump grey water.  They did have a dump station that we could use but all their 30 amp sites are too short for our rig.  Oh well, I jumped on my phone and found another place to go.  It is a bit further off the highway than I normally stop at for an overnight but it was a PA park and only $20 for a full hookup 50 amp site.  We have stayed here a couple of years before.  It is the Amana Colonies RV Park.  It is about 12 miles north of I80.  It is a very nice park and they have back to back sites but don't use them that way unless necessary.  They also do not put you side by side so you have a lot of space around your rig.

On our way we ran into a wall of water around the I80 truck stop.  It was coming down hard!  We slowed down and pulled into a rest area as soon as it came up.  We started the generator and air conditioner and sat out the rain.  Lola wasn't happy as she couldn't get out for about 30 minutes once we stopped.  We made it to the campground with only a few sprinkles.  It stayed dry until about 8:00 PM when the skies opened up again.  It rained most of the night.

We didn't go into town as we have been here before.  I really wasn't interested in buying anything.

I made spaghetti for dinner tonight.  It was easy to make as I had cooked the meat before and frozen it.  All I had to do was dump it in the sauce and cook the noodles.

When we saw the sky starting to darken up Bill decided to go out and dump the grey tank and put that hose away.  According to the news it is suppose to be raining tomorrow morning so he won't have to do that in the rain.  We also have about 240 miles to go tomorrow.  Since we dropped about 60 miles off today I added them to tomorrows drive.

So it started raining around 8:00 PM and just kept on.  Around 10:00 we noticed that the water was rising fast.  It was now ankle deep around our site.  One of the neighbors knocked on the door and asked how we were doing.  He is moving to higher ground.  We thought about it for a bit and decided to do that too.  It was interesting.  We had already pulled in the slides in and Bill went out and unhooked the power and water.  It was interesting trying to move to another site in the dark and rain.  We finally got situated on a site that had no standing water.  Left the slides in and the jacks up.  Went to bed.
