So I had my knee surgery on Wednesday, 2/06, in the early hours of the morning. I had to be at the hospital at 5:30 AM! Surgery was scheduled for 7:15. I went in just about on time but the actual surgery took much longer than the scheduled 2 hours. Turns out everything inside was loose and required extra work. After I went into surgery Bill went home to shower and have breakfast. He came back to the hospital around 9:30 but the doctor didn’t come out to see him until around 1:30. WOW, major surgery. I got into my room around 3:30 or so and had lunch. Bill stayed for awhile but I kept falling asleep so he went home
Thursday they came in and got me up walking. It doesn’t feel too bad. The knee feels stronger but the incision area is sore. The doctor said that everything inside was loose. He had to rebuild everything inside and add extra support so the surgery took much longer than planned. I don’t care as long as it is done right. PT came in a couple of times to walk and exercise. The hospital is pretty nice. Most of the food has been good. Only one meal so far that I didn’t like. You don’t have to wait for food to come, you order it like room service. Nick came by in the afternoon to visit
Friday they said I could go home. Of course I had to wait for both doctors to come visit. The surgeon came by around 2:00 but the general hospital doctor didn’t get there untl around 4:00. The nurses had as much paperwork done as they could and we got out close to 5:00. A quick trip to drop off prescriptions and home we went. I settled into bed and went to sleep. I tend to drop off to sleep a lot. Of course I don’t have much else to do
Saturday was spent getting things setup by the bed and the couch. I have a machine that pumps ice water through it to keep the knee from swelling. I go through a lot of ice. Bill has been good with bringing me things. I have also had a nurse and a physical therapist visit. They both have said I am doing very good. The fact that I have done this before helps. I asked that nobody visit today so I didn’t have to keep them entertained. Bill went out to get KFC for dinner. I will start cooking in a couple of days.
Sunday I got up and took a shower. The incision on my leg was glued shut and a plastic cover put on it. I don’t have to put any cover on it to shower. We have a seat in the shower so I could sit there. It felt good to get clean and put on fresh clothes. I won’t be showering every day but it helps me feel normal. The kids came by to visit for a bit. It was good to see them. Bill is fixing chicken pot pies for dinner tonight. Today is our 40th wedding anniversary but we aren’t going anywhere to celebrate. We went out with the kids last Saturday in anticipation. Terry and Lydia called to wish us a Happy Anniversary.
I will have PT visits 3 times a week and a nurse once a week for the next couple of weeks then I will start PT out in a clinic. I can’t drive for awhile so Bill will be taking me.
That is all for now. More later.

Keep hanging in there and have good recovery. Is there much pain? Do pain meds make you sleepy?
