Holiday season is here. I am starting to buy things for Christmas and other special days. Rory has a birthday early in Dec and Aimee has one in early Jan so I try to get everything at about the same time. I have my Christmas cards but haven’t written them yet. I keep looking at them and thinking I need to do that.
We went to our last dinner theater night on the 16th. They were doing White Christmas and it was good. We originally had tickets for the 18th but I bought tickets to a concert on that night and had to change. The Christmas show at La Comedia is very popular so they opened Wednesday night shows. That fit our schedule perfectly. The theater wasn’t crowded so service was really good.
On Friday we had tickets to see Trace Adkins but the show was in Shipshewana, Indiana. It is about 3 1/2 hours north of us so we would be spending the night up there. We took a nice scenic drive up. It was cold when we left home and we ran into a snow squall but we were on side roads so traffic wasn’t heavy and the drive was fine. Shipshewana is an Amish town so once we got up there we did a bit of window shopping. I plan on stopping at the meat and cheese store on Saturday morning to stock up. Our hotel was new to us and was on the north side of town. It was very nice and I would stay again. It is called the Homestead Inn. We had dinner at the Blue Gate restaurant but not the buffet. We had the plated dinner as we didn’t want that much food. The town was already decorated for the holidays so when the sun went down the lights came on and were very pretty. The concert was good. I did have a really tall cowboy sitting in front of me but he was nice and took off his hat without me even asking. I thanked him at the end of the show. He said his grandpa would kill him if he didn’t remove his hat. When we walked out to the car after the show it was snowing pretty hard. We thought we might be in trouble the next morning but I guess it stopped after we got to the hotel. On Saturday morning we had breakfast at the hotel and it was good. After finishing packing we headed to the store and got the things I wanted. I had brought a cooler to keep the food in and they sell frozen beef so it kept just fine. I got some really good cheese and meats to use for appetizers on Thanksgiving. We picked up a few extra goodies that we can’t get anywhere else too. The drive home was uneventful. We got home with no trouble, which was good as I had an infusion scheduled for Monday morning.
Thanksgiving was at our house. The kids came over and we had a very nice day. Bill and I had picked up our dinner during the week. We had a nice turkey breast, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, pumpkin and cherry pies. I make deviled eggs and set out the meat and cheese for snacking. I also made a queso blanco for dipping. The kids took home leftovers but we still had a lot left. I need to get a smaller breast next year.
Now I need to start decorating the house for Christmas. I don’t think I am going to put up a tree this year but will put some stuff up inside. I do put out some stuff in the yard. Hope you have a good holiday season
